Lucena del Cid
With just over 1,300 inhabitants, Lucena del Cid (in Valencian Llucena) is 33 kilometers from Castellón, capital of the province and its economic strength is based on the tile industry and active tourism. It is located in the stools of the Peñagolosa massif and its municipal term is characterized by being broken and dotted with mountains and ravines. The town center, very well preserved, houses pleasant spaces, such as the Porches of the Plaza de España, and buildings of interest such as the Town Hall, the Church of the Assumption (Goldsmith's Museum) and the old palace of the Híjar, headquarters of the museum ethnologic. In the surroundings, we will find hermitages (San Antonio and San Vicente), the tower of l’Oró (of Muslim origin and key structure in the Carlist wars) and the Iberian Tower of Foios (VII-III centuries a.d.C). The municipal term is crossed by the Llucena River, whose birth and the Route of the Mills that passes along its channel are visitable. As notable historical facts, the passage of the Cid Campeador (as evidenced by the last name of the population), the presence of the holy preacher San Vicente Ferrer and the hardness of the Carlist wars. In short, Lucena del Cid, also known as the Pearl of the Mountain, is a town that has managed to preserve its authentic flavor and now offers visitors a careful urban center full of history and a spectacular natural environment.
